Accident: CHP Pictures
Here are some pictures of the actual accident. These were taking by the CHP and given to us by our lawyers. There are many other pictures, some just too hard to even look at, that have not and will not be placed here.
Click on the picture to view it in a larger format. Please note, they are indeed large and may take a some to download on a slower connections.
This is a photo is of me being placed onto a gurney by the fire men. If you click on the photo, you'll see me in a neck brace and a bunch of other stuff already. When I spoke to one of the officers later, he told me he was blown away how messed I was and that I was recovered as quickly as I had (when I spoke to him just a few months after the accident).

Here is a closer view of the fire department using the "jaws of life" to open my door to get me out. This from the rear and notice how packed in the rear end is. You can easily see the rear tires and the frame. Imagine being in the back seat of this car as our dear friend Christine was.
|
Here you see the same thing but from the side view. You can see how badly the Jetta was smashed in the rear. If you click on the image to make it larger, you can see how the driver side window was shattered and you can see a neck brace on me.

These are the markings left by the Jetta in the freeway. It shows how the big rig hit us at over 70 MPH and literally dug us into the pavement and then shoved us to the side.
These marks are still on the freeway to today. The paint is pretty much gone, but I do see the marks when we go to the Bay Area.

This was the vehicle in front of us. As you can see, his truck got pretty messed up, too. He was fortune enough to walk away from the accident. He was at Miliron's criminal trial and his testimony was haunting for me to hear.
|
This was Miliron's final rest, another Volkswagen. This lady was hurt badly as well. Being she was the last hit and suffered the "least" force of the truck, gives you an idea of just how bad it really was for all involved.
|
This is another shot of the big rig at it's final rest. A total of five cars were hit and you can see three here. We were the other and the fifth is to the left of the big rig's front end (see above), which was the Beetle.
|
This is what the Jetta GLS looked like after the accident. As you can see, there is nothing left of the rear end. Nothing. It is where the back seat use to be.
The piece of plastic in the foreground is the rear bumper just about twenty feet after point of contact from the big rig.
|
This is the side view of the car. As you can see, it was severely damaged. The yellow tarp is covering where Christine was seated.
If you look closely at the larger version, you'll notice in the back, the tail pipe. This gives you a good idea of just how much of the car was smashed in.

Here's me in I.C.U. five days after the accident. I'm still in pretty bad shape, but am now off the respirator. You can see my left arm is in a brace. I had just had surgery and a titanium bar placed into by upper arm (see below) to insure minimal loss of my left arm. Liz is sitting to the left.
|
Here is the X-Ray of my arm almost three weeks after the rod was placed in. Most of the minor bone fractures and breaks have healed here. You can still see the three major breaks, though.
I can still remember the day I did this X-Ray in Manteca's Doctor Hospital. My ribs where still cracked and back, too. Heck, all my bones were still cracked. I had to sit on my side and stomach to get the multiple shots. The pain was soooooo great, I screamed a few times. They tried to put a lead shield on me, and I was like, 'Ya right, I'm not going to add weight!'. So, they didn't put it on. I was thankful for that.

These are but a few of the over 100 pictures taken of the accident. These are all I really feel like putting up. Maybe I'll put the rest on to dotPhoto someday, but for now, these are good enough to give you an idea of what a hellish accident this was.
